Right-wing Facebook page threat against CAIR prompts police investigation

Portland police is running an investigation after a Facebook user wrote a threat against a Muslim advocacy organization on Facebook page for Patriot Prayer, a right-wing group based in Vancouver.

The Facebook user wrote on the page for Patriot Prayer: “Can’t we just go burn down all the offices CAIR has?”

The threat was made against the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) which reported the threat to authorities, The Oregonian reported.

Patriot Prayer’s Facebook page has 18,000 followers, many who live outside the Pacific Northwest, The Oregonian reported.

“Given all the recent hate attacks and threats targeting minority communities nationwide, it is incumbent on local, state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate this apparent call to violence against a civil rights organization,” said Zakir Khan, a spokesperson for CAIR’s Oregon chapter.

“All threats of violence need to be reported to law enforcement and will be thoroughly investigated,” said Sgt. Chris Burley, a Portland police spokesman.
