Couple killed in Car Crash while Escaping U.S. Immigration Agents

An illegal couple in rural California lost their lives earlier this week when their car crashed into a power pole while speeding away in an attempt to flee from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

The victims identified as Santo Hilario Garcia, 35, and Marcelina Garcia Profecto, 33, were living in Delano, a rural town near Los Angeles and were off to look for work when they were encountered by ICE agents.

Immigration agents put on emergency lights on their car to pull over the couple’s SUV, according to a statement issued by Delano Police Department. The couple attempted to escape and sped away when the agents got out of their car. The SUV veered onto a dirt shoulder and overturned then eventually smashed into a power pole resulting in the couple’s death. They left behind six children aged between 8 and 18.

Immigrant activists claim that ICE agents are using unmarked cars to pull over farmworkers as a part of the implementation of the Trump administration ‘s policy of limiting Immigration in the U.S.
